A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Altice Portugal, Bosch, Huawei and the University of Aveiro for a cooperation protocol to identify opportunities for the application of 5G in an industrial environment, the so-called Industrial Internet of Things.
The signing took place at the University of Aveiro Science and Innovation Park, and was attended by Jónio Reis, Plant Manager at Bosch Thermotechnology, António Pereira, Plant Manager at Bosch Security Systems, Tony Li, CEO of Huawei Portugal, José Pedro Nascimento, Network Engineering and Operations Director at Altice Portugal, Paulo Jorge Ferreira and Artur Silva, Rector and Vice Rector of the University of Aveiro.
According to the statement, each of the entities, references in each sector where they operate, will contribute to projects in different ways. Bosch will be responsible for implementing use cases using 5G in its factories in Portugal. Altice will contribute to the study of architecture and network design. Huawei introduces its communications technology and equipment. Finally, the University of Aveiro will play a key role in defining network architecture, taking advantage of its 5G Lab to be installed in the new Science and Innovation Park.
Previously, these partners had already formed a consortium for the development of an Industry 4.0 related project, with an investment of around 10 million euros. This project is still under approval.

Portugal has always been innovative and it is important to maintain this reality. We are here to do our part and it is to this extent that we are delighted to partner with Altice, Bosch and the University of Aveiro to explore the potential of 5G applied to the industry. ”
The project is expected to be implemented by the end of 2023.
