According to a study conducted by Nielsen, Fortnite remains the most lucrative game in the world. The analyst concluded that the Epic Games title generated less revenue than in 2018, but continued to stratospheric numbers, reaching more than $ 1.8 billion in 2019. The figure is 25% lower than a year earlier, but exceeds at over $ 200 million the second-ranked game – Dungeon Fighter Online.
Fortnite's success can be said to continue, but it is equally true that it is stabilizing after several years of growing. In 2019, the title benefited from partnerships that led to new audiences, such as the collaboration with Star Wars and the exclusive debut of a trailer in the game itself; the musician Marshmello; the Avengers; or the John Wick saga. It is important to remember that these partnerships were not only important for visibility but above all for profitability. The release of aesthetic articles related to these pop universes was a valuable selling point for the game, whose main source of revenue is the commercialization of personalization elements.
Note that the recipe does not necessarily reflect the popularity of the game which, despite being played by many people, has fewer active users than League of Legends, for example. The latter, however, is not so successful in convincing players to spend money on their content.
