Microsoft has released the Project Artemis, a free tool that analyzes text chatting online, on social networks or any chat service, detecting attempts to approach children of sexual content. This tool is free and available to all companies that offer chat systems.
Whenever the system detects an attempt at sexual disease, it will be recorded and promptly reported. The tool was developed in partnership with different entities, some linked to child services such as the Roblox game, but also the social network The Meet Group, instant messaging Kik Messenger and Thorn, an institution also dedicated to defending children. The Microsoft tool was even integrated into Thorn's platform, which will then make it available to qualified and chat websites.
The tool uses a technique applied to the history of text conversations performed in chat. It evaluates and classifies the characteristics of the conversation and presents a probability rating. When integrated into the services, a conversation that has been flagged is sent to human moderators to review and identify potential danger to children, and to take the necessary steps to report predators to the authorities.
