Within 24 hours of voting for Word of the Year 2019, “sustainability” and “(domestic) violence” compete almost side by side for the title, the first with a slight advance, according to Porto Editora.
On the podium is also "disinformation", which reveals a concern of the Portuguese about the so-called fake news, which increasingly invade social networks.
In the race for the Word of the Year 2019 is also 'jerricã', the fourth most voted word so far, followed by 'nepotism', 'scooter', 'drought', 'influencer', 'lithium' and finally 'multipartism', in descending order of the number of votes.
All candidate words are available for voting until the last second of this Tuesday, December 31st, at www.palavradoano.pt. The big winner will be unveiled next January 6.
It should be noted that in 2018 he won the word «nurse», with 37.8% of the 226 thousand validated votes, followed by «teacher». Going back in the ten previous editions, the words chosen remind us of what influenced the country: 'crush' (2009), 'vuvuzela' (2010), 'austerity' (2011), 'entroikado' (2012), 'firefighter' ( 2013), 'corruption' (2014), 'refugee' (2015), 'contraption' (2016) and 'fire' (2017).
