The Portuguese Woman in Tech (PWIT) community, Deloitte and Polar Insight have teamed up with Wild Code School to fight gender disparity in the technology sector by encouraging female education. The programming school will offer three scholarships, totaling € 15,000, for the Data Analyst course, which promises a placement rate of over 80%.
The recently published PWIT study, in partnership with Deloitte and Polar Insight, reveals that there is still a large gender disparity in technology. Of the 5,000 women surveyed at Pioneers, about half say they are a minority where they work, and one in ten are the only women in their department. The salary issue is also one of the indicators of the inequality experienced: 38% have already felt that they earn less than their peers just because they are women, and 49% have felt discrimination in the promotion process.
For many of the participants in the Pioneers study, creating women's empowerment initiatives, like code schools, is one of the best ways to increase gender parity in the technology world, PWIT says in a press release. .
The intensive training offered by Wild Code School is designed to meet this need by offering, as of 9 March 2020, a five-month course that will enable you not only to acquire the technical skills essential to the role of a Data Analyst, but also to learn about programming tools and languages, as well as data transformation. Also included is employability training and support for finding a future job.
Those interested in taking a step into the technology world can apply for Wild Code School page. To qualify for one of the three scholarships available, participants must also complete the tutorials and exercises presented.
